ABOUT ESSEC

What programs does ESSEC have to offer?
ESSEC offers a wide range of academic programs which opens its students to numerous possibilities. Academic life at ESSEC is spread across not only the several academic programs taught in French and English, but also The Chairs, Institutes, internships and apprenticeships, as well as the ESSEC Ventures program which provide the real world experiences that are a core part of the academic programs. More specifically, what are the programs taught in French?

In addition to the Bachelor of Business Administration and the Master of Science in Management, which are both offered in English as well as French, ESSEC has 14 specialized masters’ degrees uniquely taught in French.

GENERAL

How can I request a brochure for the program in which I am interested?
All ESSEC program brochures can be found here.
 
Can I meet with an ESSEC representative to discuss the programs at ESSEC?
Yes, meetings with ESSEC representatives can be arranged either on campus, at our local office in Beijing or at fairs around the world. Visit the ‘Meet with us’ page of our website to see where our representatives will be in the coming months.
 
Will visiting ESSEC’s campus increase my changes of admission?
No. While we do encourage students to visit our campus, this does not affect your chances of admission.
 
How does the visa process work for non-European students?
All visa procedures are done through Campus France. The visa office at ESSEC will furnish you with all necessary documents for completing this process in your home country (generally at least three months before departure). For any additional information, you can visit the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or contact the French Consulate nearest you.

As a student, will I have the opportunity to network with alumni through organized events?
Yes, each program frequently organizes networking seminars and events, guest speakers, job fairs, and company visits throughout the year, and has a mentor program that connects current students with alumni.

What are the career prospects after the MSc in Management program?
Every year, more than 15,000 internship opportunities (including 2,000 outside France) are posted to students online. Based on the most recent employment survey, 98% of graduates found employment within 6 months and 60% before leaving school. 43 % of graduates work in consultancy firms or in finance. 

What are the career prospects after the MBA in International Luxury Brand Management program?
The MBA in International Luxury Brand Management provides ongoing career guidance and support to participants to help them find suitable positions after they graduate. On average, 70% of our students secure stable employment within four months of graduation, primarily in the following three industry segments: fragrances and cosmetics; watches and jewelry; fashion accessories. APPLICATION PROCEDURE

How and when should I apply for my program of interest?
The application procedure and criteria for each program at ESSEC varies. However, all admissions applications are submitted online and each program has between two and four admission sessions.  Generally, applicants will need to submit:

  • Your application form dated and signed: PDF document that you will receive by e-mail, within
  • A non-refundable application fee
  • A resume / CV
  • Original or certified copy of all diplomas and a certified translation in English or French, if necessary
  • Official transcript of grades received from all colleges and universities attended. If the original is not in English or French, you must provide a certified translation in one of these languages.
  • 2-3 letters of recommendation in sealed envelopes
  • Original TOEFL, TOEIC  or IELTS scores
  • Original TOEFL and GMAT scores sent by ETS
  • A copy of your Passport or National Identity Card
  • 2-3 recent identity photographs of good quality

Are some parts of the application weighed more than others?
The ESSEC admissions team reviews applications as a whole, looking for overall quality and balance as opposed to any one particular component.
 
Do I need to mail in copies of my transcripts?
Yes, for your application to be considered complete, you will need to have hard copies of official transcripts mailed to ESSEC Business School.
 
How will my application be evaluated?
Every application is thoroughly reviewed by a team of evaluators, both academic and professional, with consideration given to all elements including soft skills that are considered essential for any ESSEC student.
 
When and how can I expect to hear back from ESSEC?
Shortlisting and admission results will be available online via our application summary and sent by e-mail. The time frame in which you will receive a response will vary depending upon the program and during which session you applied.
 
Will ESSEC provide feedback for students who have been rejected?
Due to the quantity of applications received, we are unable to provide personalized feedback for non-admitted students.
 
If I’ve been denied admission, may I appeal the decision?
No. All decisions made by the admissions committee are final. You can, however, choose to re-apply for the following year.

LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION

Do you have letter of recommendation forms?
Yes, all personal recommendations should be made, if possible, on the ESSEC Business School Recommendation form. This form can be sent to referees who can then return it by e-mail directly to the admissions office.
 
Should my letters of recommendation be professional or academic?
Preferably, your letters of recommendation will be related to your professional experience, and will represent a mix of supervisors and colleagues.
 
May I submit additional letters of recommendation?
Additional letters of recommendation are accepted under the condition that they provide a unique insight into a candidate’s profile. Having additional letters of recommendation is not considered an advantage.
 
What if my recommender doesn’t speak English well?
ESSEC will accept certified, translated copies of recommendations. Letters of recommendation can also be submitted in French if your referee is a native French speaker.

GMAT

Is there a minimum GMAT score required?
ESSEC does not have a minimum required GMAT score.
 
How long are GMAT scores valid?
5 years.
 
Do you average GMAT scores if I’ve taken the test more than once?
If you have taken the GMAT more than once, we will take the highest score into consideration.
 
Where can I get more information on the GMAT?
More information about the GMAT, preparation, and registration can be obtained through GMAC.
 
Do I need to complete the AWA section of the GMAT?
Yes, all sections of the GMAT are required.
 
Can I submit an application without my GMAT scores?
You may submit an application with a scheduled test date if you have not yet taken the GMAT, but your official scores must be received in order for your application to be considered complete.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT

Am I required to take the TOEFL?
The TOEFL is required of all prospective students who are not native English speakers or who have not obtained their undergraduate degree from an institution in an English-speaking country. We also accept the TOEIC and the IELTS.
 
What if I have lived and worked in an English speaking country for many years?
The TOEFL requirement can be waved on a case-by-case basis if you have obtained bilingual fluency in English.

VISITING ESSEC

What is the policy for visiting ESSEC?
We encourage all prospective and admitted students to visit us and to meet the ESSEC team. We ask that you coordinate your visit directly with the program administration so that we can try and schedule your visit for a time when students are on campus and might be free to meet with you.

How do I get to ESSEC? Where should I stay?
ESSEC is located near the station of Cergy-Préfecture on the RER A and transilien line from Paris Saint-Lazare, about 35 km from Paris. If coming from Paris, you will need to buy a metro ticket for Zones 1-5 and take either the train (runs most frequently in the morning and evening) or the RER A (runs all day long) in the direction of Cergy-le-Haut. There are two hotels in Cergy that are close to the ESSEC Campus, Ibis (Avenue de Groettes), and Novotel (Avenue du Parc). Otherwise, there are many hotels in Paris at varying price ranges.

INTERVIEWS

Will an interview be required as part of the admission process?
If your application is selected, you will be invited to an interview either via Skype or in person. The admissions office will fix an appropriate date and time for this interview.

What should I expect for my interview?
The purpose of the interview is to assess your motivation for pursuing a degree at ESSEC, your professional goals, and your potential fit with the program. All interviews are carried out in English, and last on average 30-45 minutes.

TUITION AND FINANCIAL AID

What types of financial aid are available?
Details on the types of scholarships available are available on our financing page. Most students seek bank loans for studies from their home countries. If you are French or have a French guarantor, ESSEC has partnerships with several French banks. These loan processes can be discussed on a personal basis depending on your circumstances.

How much are the tuition fees?
